Really solid. Not as an assassins creed game but as a pirate game.
Assassin's Creed Black Flag. I remember when I first got the game and played it. It is still my most favorite Assassin's Creed Game of all time. To sail in this Open-World, to be a pirate and to attack multiple ships at the same time gives me Pirates of the Caribbean flashbacks.
Ok, if I replay the game now, I realize how much time passed. The level design is so old and to be honest, a little bit boring to me now (the one mission on the assassin island gives me still a headache), that i can just speak of nostalgia and therefore rate the game as one of the best games of all time by 9/10.

GOTY
Well, I finished this game for the first time back in the Xbox 360 era, now again in the S/X series, where it is in the One version. My impression of this game was always: "this is definitely the best Assassin's Creed game ever." all!" But today my thinking has changed a lot. I played Unity, where it is certainly the most "classic" of the franchise, where it really has Assassin's Creed and a little more, and also in my opinion the best combat in the franchise. But Black Flag isn't far behind, with a magical map with lots of things to see and do, and full of surprises. The story, being a new one, involves you as a pirate and the protagonist gets involved in this war between assassins and templars. Naval combat gameplay is the most incredible part of this game, where it really shines. On the other hand, Edward's gameplay isn't one of the best in the franchise but it's still cool, being a little weaker than the third in the franchise. This game will give you hours of gameplay even though it's "old", so it's still worth playing this masterpiece, even though for me it's not the best, but rather second place.
