amazing
This is a true return to form and a hell of a way for the series to wrap up several plot lines in an exciting way.

Worth it for the ladder alone
This is one of my favorite games ever, but playing it nowadays is a bit difficult. The lack of radar does not work well with an isometric view and aiming your gun can be jarring. MGS4 and 5 have the camera right with 3rd person view and perspective and I am looking forward to this remaster, so much that I purchased another copy to try to play once I heard the announcement. I still love the story and boss battles and have so many memories of this game. Still my favorite of the series.

I never imagined climbing a ladder would make me want to stand up and salute. Seriously, though. Brilliant story. Moving characters. Gripping boss fights. Kick-in-the-pants ending. A powerful emotional experience.

It was really hyped when it came out, I've played through multiple times and completed several of the challenges, no detection, no kill, completion under set hours. Twenty years later I can honestly say it was not that great and Kojima is a pretentious, loose cannon who needed Konami as much as they needed him.
