Wuthering Waves Jiyan Build Guide - Best Weapons, Echoes, and Teams
Jiyan arrives in Wuthering Waves giving up his position as a medic and taking the frontline as the general of the Midnight Rangers, a military faction devoted to protecting the city of Jinzhou. He is the very first limited 5-star character in Wuthering Waves, and starts the game off strong with his impressive flexibility and damage. This guide to the best Wuthering Waves Jiyan build will explain the best weapons, echoes, sequences, fortes, and team compositions for Jiyan.

How to Get Jiyan in Wuthering Waves
Jiyan is a limited 5-star character, meaning he can only be acquired on his featured limited banner or rerun banners. If you miss his first appearance, your only option is to wait until he comes back around for a chance to snag him.
Wuthering Waves Jiyan Gameplay Overview
- Element: Aero
- Weapon: Broadblade
- Rarity: 5-star
Jiyan is an on-field AoE DPS focused on using his Resonance Liberation (Ultimate) to enhance his abilities while grouping enemies and dealing damage. If you recruit him for your team, he will demand the most support, but reward you with his damage output. As of 1.0, Jiyan is the best AoE attacker in the game, with little contest.
Jiyan’s kit revolves around his resolve stacks and special energy for his Forte Circuit (the wavelengths directly above your HP bar). Merely hitting enemies adds to this bar, and when you have enough special energy, Jiyan’s Ultimate and Skill have an enhanced form that can be used. You’ll almost always want to use this energy on the enhanced Ultimate when available, since while in his Ultimate form, the Skill is automatically upgraded to its enhanced version. The upgraded Ultimate also deals sizable damage.
Since Jiyan is so dependent on his Ultimate (“Resonance Liberation”) to enter his DPS window, supplying him with energy is essential. Building energy recharge stats on Jiyan’s 3-cost echoes can help him ult more consistently to ensure he is regularly able to deal high damage. Additionally, the free character Yangyang has an Outro Skill which generates energy for the incoming character, making her an excellent support for Jiyan.
Overall, if you pull Jiyan, you will shred through most of the game. However, I would be cautious about his lasting power if you intend to use him longer than a year; he is susceptible to power-creep. Eventually, games like these trend towards single-target scenarios as the combat gets tougher.
Stats Worth Consideration
- CRIT Rate/DMG: For maximizing your damage in endgame
- Energy Regen: For reliably enabling Jiyan’s most powerful form for damage-dealing
- ATK%: DMG% bonuses are abundant in Wuthering Waves, and you’ll have many sources of Aero damage from the mainstats of your echoes and buffs from teammates. ATK% is rarer in this game and diversifying buffs is good in most gacha games. In early game, you can neglect CRIT to focus on ATK%.
Jiyan Fortes
Your talent-levelling priority should be Res. Liberation (Ult) > Forte Circuit > Basic Attack = Resonance Skill > Intro Skill
Basic Attack: Lone Lance
Jiyan is going to be using this fairly frequently while on-field, so they are certainly worth levelling, though most of his damage will be coming from his Ultimate.
Resonance Skill: Windqueller
If you played Genshin Impact and enjoyed Xiao, you’ll feel right at home with this Skill. It is a horizontal dash that can be used on the ground and mid-air and can be used to facilitate combos.
When Jiyan has 30 Resolve (half of his bar), the Skill deals extra damage.
Resonance Liberation (Ultimate): Emerald Storm: Prelude
The Burst is the largest portion of Jiyan’s damage profile, deserving your priority when it comes to resource investment. When not expanding Jiyan’s resolve, he simply enters an alternate stance, giving him interruption resistance and converting all his basic, heavy, and counterattacks with a special new heavy attack.
With this in mind, you’ll want equipment and buffs that buff heavy attacks.
Forte Circuit: Qingloong at War
Forte Circuits essentially dictate what the wavelength bar above the HP bar does for your character, and will often dictate how the character is played.
In Jiyan’s case, the forte circuit energy is called “Resolve,” and up to 60 can be held at once.
Basic Attacks and the Intro Skill increase Resolve, but failing to attack enemies for a time decreases resolve. Since you want to be attacking constantly anyways, it is quite easy to stack resolve.
Using his Skill or Ultimate while having 30 or more resolve upgrade the respective ability to an enhanced version as previously specified. Again, you usually want to use Resolve on the Ultimate, rather than the Skill, whenever possible.
Jiyan's Passives
Next, come his passives.
- His first passive grants 10% ATK for 15s after using his Intro Skill.
- His second passive grants 12% CRIT DMG whenever hitting an enemy.
Jiyan also gains two stat bonuses through leveling his fortes.
- Aero DMG +12%
- ATK +12%
Jiyan's Swapping Skills
And now, his swapping skills.
- Intro: Deals a strong instance of Aero damage.
- Outro: Teammate heavy attacks can trigger a coordinated attack from Jiyan while Jiyan is off-field up to two times.
Jiyan's Field Time Combos
Jiyan’s field time should be executed as such:
- Jiyan Intro Skill
- Jiyan Echo Skill
- Get enough Resolve with attacks if necessary.
- (With 30 Resolve) Resonance Liberation (Ultimate)
- Skill (if available, to generate energy right away)
- Enhanced Basic Attacks
- Basic Attack String + Resonance Skill (until you can use Outro Skill)
- Outro Skill
Jiyan's Resonance Sequences
Jiyan is a fully functional character at S0 and does not need help with Resonance Sequences. S3, S5, and S6 are the best for Jiyan’s damage. S1 and S2 are the weakest, but they’ll still relatively solid.
Resonance Sequence Name | Abbreviated In-Game Description | Notes |
---|---|---|
S1. Benevolence | Resonance Skill costs 15 less resolve and can be used an additional time. | This is an indirect boost to Jiyan’s damage, since the extra Skill use will generate more energy, allowing you to build less Energy Regen on Jiyan. Think of it as a quality-of-life upgrade. |
S2. Versatility | Using the Intro Skill grants 30 resolve and 28% ATK for 15s. | Another quality-of-life upgrade for streamlining your rotations. The ATK%, of course, is a decent buff, but nothing revolutionary. |
S3. Spectation | When using Resonance Skill, Ultimate, or Intro Skill, +16% CRIT Rate and +32% CRIT DMG for 8s. | An impressive boost to Jiyan’s damage. CRIT Rate is usually twice as valuable as CRIT DMG, so 64 Crit Value (CV) is quite good. |
S4. Prudence | Using either version of Jiyan’s Ultimate increases Heavy Attack DMG +20% for the entire team for 30s | A solid Sequence if your whole party uses Heavy Attacks, but not as valuable as S3. DMG% is an oversaturated buff so it’s not as impressive as it looks if Jiyan is the only beneficiary. |
S5. Resolution | Increases Outro Skill multiplier by 120%. Each hit (not attack) on an enemy increases ATK by 3% for 8s, stacking up to 15 times. | Jiyan’s attacks are fast and rapid, meaning Jiyan will reach all 15 stacks very quickly for a massive 45% ATK boost. Since ATK% buffs are harder to come by, this is particularly welcome. |
S6. Fortitude | Heavy Attacks, Intro Skills, and Resonance Skills used by Jiyan grant 1 stack of Momentum (max 2). Using the enhanced Ultimate with his resolve will increase the damage multiplier by 120% for each stack consumed. | Increasing multipliers directly is a much stronger buff than simply adding DMG%, since multipliers take all the relevant aspects of the kit into consideration. This turns the enhanced Ultimate into a nuke, massively increasing his damage. |
Best Weapons for Jiyan in Wuthering Waves
Jiyan wants CRIT and ATK weapons, but mostly CRIT weapons. Anything that boost Heavy Attacks is a big bonus.
Remember that 5-stars, even when not listed, are usually better than all other 4-stars, unless otherwise noted.
Weapon Name | Abbreviated In-Game Description | Notes |
---|---|---|
Verdant Summit 48.6% C. DMG | Increases the DMG Bonus of all Resonance Attributes by 12%. Every time Intro Skill or Resonance Liberation (Ult) is cast, increases Heavy Attack DMG Bonus by 24%, stacking up to 2 time(s). This effect lasts for 14s. | Best 5-Star Weapon This weapon isn't really great on anyone else except Jiyan, other than for the CRIT stat on this. However, his signature weapon remains his best choice. |
Autumntrace (1-5) 20.4% C. Rate | Increases ATK by 4-12.8% (R1-R5) upon dealing Basic Attack DMG or Heavy Attack DMG, stacking up to 5 time(s). This effect lasts for 7s and can be triggered 1 time(s) every 1s. | Battle Pass Option Battle Pass options often offer CRIT stats, which are highly desirable, and seldom go out of fashion. It is also better than any 4-star gacha weapon as of patch 1.0. |
Guardian Broadblade (5) 24.3% ATK | Increases Basic Attack DMG and Heavy Attack DMG by 24%. | Free Option The craftable 4-star Broadblade is competitive with this weapon, but you will easily have plenty of 3-star weapons to refine without having to worry about spending resources. Additionally, the 4-star gacha weapon, Helios Cleaver, is better when you have all five copies, but this weapon is much easier to acquire all of its copies. |
Best Echoes for Jiyan in Wuthering Waves
Characters will usually use a 4-cost echo, two 3-cost echoes, and two 1-cost echoes, adding up to 12 cost. In the endgame, Jiyan is no different.
For Early Game:
- 3-cost – x2 Aero DMG% + x2 ATK% (or some combination of the two)
For Endgame
- 4-cost – CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG
- 3-cost – Aero DMG% (x2)
- 1-cost – ATK% (x2)
There’s really only one worthwhile option for Jiyan in terms of Echoes, and that is the Sierra Gale 5pc set for maximum Aero DMG Bonus.
Echo Set Name | Abbreviated In-Game Description | Notes |
---|---|---|
5pc Sierra Gale | 2pc: 10% Aero DMG. 5pc: Aero DMG +30% for 15s when Intro Skill is used. | Best-in-Slot Straightforward for Jiyan’s needs. Alternatively, if you can’t find all five pieces, you can mix two 2pc sets: Sierra Gale and Lingering Tunes for 10% Aero DMG and 10% ATK |
Not only do you need to choose the element of echoes for Jiyan, but you also need to determine which Echo Skill you’ll use. There are three candidates for this position.
Echo Name | Abbreviated In-Game Description | Notes |
---|---|---|
Feilian Beringal | Transform into Feilian Beringal to perform a powerful kick. If the kick lands on an enemy, immediately perform a follow-up strike. After the follow-up strike hits, the current character's Aero DMG increases by 12%, and the Heavy Attack DMG increases by 12% for 15s
CD: 25s | Best-in-Slot While the animation is quite long, not only is the damage worth the time, but it can also be swap-cancelled, meaning as soon as you use this skill, you can swap to a teammate if needed and continue actions while the attack is being carried out, effectively nullifying the drawback. |
Hoochief | Transform into Hoochief Cyclone and smack the enemies.
CD: 25s | Secondary Option If you want a much shorter attack animation with less power, this is a viable option for your Echo Skill |
Cyan-Feathered Heron | Transform into Cyan-Feathered Heron and charge at the enemies, dealing Aero DMG; This Echo Skill interrupts enemy Special Skills upon dealing damage.
CD: 15s | Secondary Option Mainly good if you feel satisfied countering enemy special attacks, but you’re probably better off working with damage. However, the shorter cooldown compared to other echoes can be helpful if you can manage 20s rotations. |
Best Jiyan Teammates in WuWa
The standard team will want:
- An on-field DPS (Jiyan, in this case)
- One character on the team that deals damage and/or buffs your main DPS's damage
- A healer (or another buffer, depending on your personal skill level with dodging and parrying)
Character Icon | Explanation |
Mortefi Damage, Buffs | Mortefi deals off-field damage and buffs Heavy Attack DMG, which is most of Jiyan’s kit while in his Ultimate form. |
Yangyang Damage, Buffs | Yangyang is a free character, and her Outro Skill generates energy for the incoming character, helping Jiyan with his energy requirements. |
Aalto Damage, Buffs | Aalto is also an Aero character who can increase Aero DMG, but he also has an energy problem, which Yangyang can help satisfy if you don’t need a healer. |
Verina Healing, Buffs | Verina is the beast healing option right now, and due to her universally viable buffs for teams, she is the best pure support character you can have in a team. |
Baizhi Healing, Buffs | Baizhi is the freely available healer if you don’t have Verina, and will be your standard choice for when you need more comfortable fights. |
